TBWA/Toronto and Sons & Daughters’ director Zach Math band together to bring us beautiful retro-futuristic imagery in Nissan “Space”. The spot is part of a substantial campaign cut by School’s Jon Devries and finished at theVanity. “Space” brings us back to the glory days of sci-fi monsters and spaceships. A cyclops titan shoots lasers and smashes through the bridge of our heroes’ space vessel. Sensing that there is no defeating this behemoth, the 7 person crew scurries to the escape pod, only to find that it can only hold five. Dun-dun-duuuuuun!
Our conundrum is no match for the all new Nissan Rogue’s seven passenger seating capability. Our heroes walk out of the theatre and ride away together.
theVanity’s artists agonized over minutia and sub-pixel detail in order to stay as true to the genre as possible. Along with a stunning matte painting of our 50’s space world, theVanity added smoke and lasers all the while being very careful to keep the look of all of the vfx authentic. Artists spent considerable time experimenting with blurring and sharpening tools to try to give the film just the right texture.
